Sandy Bay Yacht Club was founded in 1885. The clubhouse is situated in the harbor of the scenic and historic coastal town of Rockport, Massachusetts.
SBYC has many one-design and cruising sailboats that race in regular weekend and Wednesday evening races, also annual club regattas and club-sponsored district and national regattas. We also have an active social program.
SBYC is host to the Sandy Bay Sailing Program which provides basic to advanced training for juniors and adults. We aim to give students broad exposure to sailboat racing, to instill a love of the sport, and to develop safe, independent sailors.
Sandy Bay Yacht Club has 800 members ranging in age from 8 to 95. The benefits of club membership include:
Yacht club facilities comprising clubhouse, wharf and floats.
The Junior Sailing Program, the Adult Sailing Program, and private sailing lessons.
Club-sponsored races and regattas in several one-design and cruising classes.
Social events including chowders, weekend coffees, after-sailing get togethers, dances, cookouts, and catered or potluck suppers.

Welcome to the Sandy Bay Sailing Program! We offer sailing lessons to sailors of all ages and abilities; from beginners to racers and cruisers, ages eight and up. Our beautiful location on T-Wharf in historic Rockport, MA offers quick access to ocean sailing at its best.
Our Junior Program uses 18 Optimist dinghies and nine 420s. These dinghies are the choice of yacht clubs and sailing programs nationwide. They offer students a sturdy platform on which to learn, while providing enough challenge to keep competent racers involved in the sport. enough challenge to keep competent racers involved in the sport.
Juniors are grouped by ability and there is a place for everyone including eight-year-old-beginners, older 13- or 14-year-old-beginners, right on up to the seasoned racer. Our racing programs offer experienced sailors the opportunity to travel locally and regionally, competing against other sailors their own age.
SBYC’s Ship’s Store is open at the clubhouse on Sunday mornings, 9:30 – 11:00 from mid-June through mid-September.
