|William Reynolds Beal, 81, husband of Telka Ackley Beal, died yesterday after a brief illness.He was born in New York to the eminent artist Gifford Beal and the late Maud R. Beal.
Mr. Beal served in the 603 Engineering Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II. His professional theater career included acting in the three Broadway shows “State of the Union”, “A Sound of Hunting”, and “Crime and Punishment”.
Mr. Beal later went on to become a producer-director at WABC-TV in New York and an instructor in Radio-TV at Ithaca College.
Mr. Beal was a member of Actor’s Equity Association, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Screen Actor’s Guild, Directors Guild of America, and was most recently a full time artist and resident of Rockport. He was an artist member of the Rockport Art Association, the North Shore Art Association, the Academic Artists and an Overseas Member of the Bermuda Society of Arts. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and the Sandy Bay Yacht Club.
Mr. Beal is survived by his wife, Telka Ackley Beal; a brother, Gifford Reynolds Beal of Highland, NY; a son, William Reynolds Beal III of Gloucester; daughters, Jennifer Beal Ober of Rockport and Edith Maud Tuttle of Plymouth, MN; a granddaughter, Helen Beal; and daughter-in-law, Lyn Beal of Rockport; and sons-in-law, Richard Ober of Rockport and Peter Tuttle of Plymouth, MN.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, at 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 24 Broadway, Rockport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William R. Beal Jr. Yacht Club Scholarship Fund, c/o Sandy Bay Yacht Club, P.O. Box 37, Rockport, MA 01966.
Private burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport.
