Half Staff – Ida Chambers

August 26, 2021
July 3, 1945 – August 26, 2021Rockport – Ida Marie Chambers (D’Amico) 76, of Rockport, MA and Marco Island, FL departed this earth to her heavenly home on August 26, 2021.

Born in 1945, Ida was the youngest daughter of Captain Joseph D’Amico and Mary (Calomo) D’Amico of Gloucester. After graduating from Gloucester High School in 1963, she took a secretarial job at Addison Gilbert Hospital. Her dream of working in Boston was realized after passing the civil service test and taking a position with the IRS. Even in recent weeks she talked about how much she loved commuting to the city to work in the JFK Building.

Ida was a devoted, loving, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an open-minded, nonjudgmental and trustworthy person with a warm welcoming spirit. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good laugh. These qualities made her the best friend and a quintessential second mom to so many people.

She was a master in the Work of Kinship, preparing a feast every Sunday, where all were welcome, and there was always enough sauce and meatballs to scooch down and make room for one more at the table.

She was an avid sports fan, watching every Red Sox and Patriots game. She loved crossword puzzles and could take down the best in a game of Scrabble.

Ida’s interest in travel started when she hit The Big Apple with her girlfriends for The World’s Fair in 1964. With her husband Bill, she traveled through the locks of the Panama Canal, shipped up to Alaska twice, accompanied him to fire safety training in Houston and ship handling school in Grenoble, France. In recent years, she toured 5 islands of the Azores, England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Germany and took the whole family on a cruise to Bermuda.

In addition to her loving husband, Captain William H. Chambers of Rockport, Ida is survived by her son, Joseph F. Chambers and wife, Karen of Rockport; daughter, Maria Chambers and wife Jeannie of Long Beach, NY and daughter, Karen Guillemette and husband Jay of South Yarmouth, MA; grandchildren, Timothy Chambers, Michaela Hillier, Sarah Chambers of Rockport and Henry Chambers of Long Beach, NY; her sister, Angela Ciaramitaro; brother, Anthony D’Amico and wife Debra; brothers-in-law, James Chambers, Paul Chambers and wife Joan, John Chambers; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Larson and husband Peter, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
