|Dr. Bernard E. O’Brien, 63, of Wellesley and Rockport, died unexpectedly yesterday at Addison Gilbert Hospital.A surgeon and urgent care physician, he was born in Boston, and lived in Wellesley for 20 years and lived in Rockport for 30 years. He graduated from Laconia High School, Laconic, NH in1950, and went on to Harvard where he gradated with the class of 1954. He Len went on to Boston University Medical School, graduating in 1958.
He was a member of the Harvard University Varsity Football Team, and served three years as a Navy surgeon. He was a member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club, Rockport, and also worked for the Harvard Community Health Plan.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. (Healey) O’Brien; three sons, Andrew E. O’Brien of Watertown, Arthur H. O’Brien of Wellesley, and David P. O’Brien of Wellesley; and a daughter-in-law, Anita Verheul of Watertown.
Funeral services will be held Friday, at 8:15 a.m., at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., Wellesley.
Funeral Mass will be held in St. Paul Church in Wellesley on Friday at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
