Half Staff – Dorothy Radville

Rockport — Dorothy (Weafer) Radville, 85, of Rockport, died at home November 5, 2012. Born in 1927 in Woburn, she was married for 60 years to the late Frederick Radville and was the daughter of the late William Henry Weafer and Agnes Eleanor (Corry) Weafer, of Woburn.Dorothy leaves four children; Diane Wemyss and her husband Gary of Rockport, Charles and his wife Trudy of Mattapoisett, Richard and his wife Nancy of Reading, and Mark and his wife Sheila of West Newbury. She was the sister of Eleanor McElhinney of Woburn and of Colonel William J. “Buck” Weafer, USA, Retired, of Leavenworth, Kan. She was also the grandmother of eight; Emily Flynn DeCaro of Rockport, Natalie Flynn Mahady and husband David of Salem, Gregory Wemyss of Rockport, Monica Wemyss of Rockport, Katharine Radville and her husband Adlar Su of Arlington, Timothy Radville and his wife Kimberly Edwards of Brooklyn, N.Y., Laura Radville of Bellefont, Pa., and Ben Radville of West Newbury. She also leaves three great-grandchildren; Aine DeCaro, Elizabeth Mahady, and Calvin Mahady.

A talented artist, Dorothy graduated from the Mass College of Art in 1948 and taught elementary school art for several years prior to starting a family. She continued to paint for many years and transferred her talents to gardening in her later years. She was a member and the past president of the Rockport Garden Club, and a former member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club in Rockport. She was also a volunteer at the Open Door Food Pantry in Gloucester. Dorothy enjoyed traveling all over Cape Ann and New England on the back of her husband Fred’s motorcycle. Prior to living in Rockport she was a member of the Wakefield Garden Club and a member and past president of the Wakefield YMCA Women’s Auxiliary. Dorothy was an avid reader, a lover of the ocean and her garden, and a devoted and loving wife and mother. She will be sadly missed.

ARRANGEMENTS: Dorothy’s funeral service will be held on Friday November 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Church of The Holy Family Parish in Rockport. Visiting hours will be at the Burgess & Mackey Funeral, 201 Main St. Rockport prior to the service between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
