|PEMBROKE: Diane R. Tupper, 70, of Pembroke, formerly of Rockport, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at her home.Born in Gloucester on March 23, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Regina (Walima) Tupper.
Diane was a graduate of Rockport High School with the Class of 1962. As a young girl, she worked at her parent’s store, Walima’s Market in Rockport and at Jimmy’s Sunrise across from Back Beach. Growing up, she loved dancing and would often attend dances at the former Finnish Hall in Rockport. After high school, she went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Bridgewater State College and her master’s degree from Cambridge College.
She had taught physical education in Connecticut and in Norwell for many years, while residing in Pembroke. She had also served as a volunteer worker for the Cerebral Palsy Association.
Diane remained an active member of the town of Rockport, coming often to visit family and was a member of the Rockport Reunion Committee. She also enjoyed being a member of the Lawn Chair Drill Team for the 4th of July parades. Always full of life, Diane enjoyed traveling, reading and was an avid sailor and former member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club. Family was very important to Diane and she was often the life of the party at family events and holidays. Diane lived for and through the happiness of others. She attended almost all of her nieces and nephews games and supported so many through her presence, love and giving nature.
She is survived by her brother, Donald Tupper of Rockport and his children, Christine Tupper of Rockport, Dennis Tupper and wife, Andrea, of Beverly, and their son, Zachary; nephews, Michael Tupper and wife, Deborah, of Rockport and their children, Michael and Meghan; David Tupper of Rockport and his son, David Jr. and his wife, Annalise, of Beverly; niece, Amber Tupper of Beverly and her children, Corbin and Lana.
She was predeceased by her brother, David Tupper and his wife, Bunny; and her nephew, Jeffrey Tupper.
A graveside service will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery at a later date, followed by a celebration of her life.
